A hybrid connection uses at least two connection methods to connect two or more components. Usually, mechanical connections and adhesive connections throughout the thickness of the laminate are used simultaneously, such as bolt connections and adhesive connections, rivet connections and adhesive connections, etc. If the connection quality is strictly ensured in terms of technology and the deformation of the two is consistent and they are loaded at the same time, it can prevent or delay the expansion of damage to the adhesive layer and improve the properties of peeling resistance, impact resistance, fatigue resistance and creep resistance. At the same time, hybrid connections will also bring adverse effects such as hole stress concentration, increased structural weight and cost.
The connection method used in composite material connection depends on the situation. Generally speaking, mechanical connection methods are often used for parts that need to transmit large concentrated loads and emphasize reliability. For parts that need to transmit uniform loads or bear shear loads, adhesive connections with higher connection efficiency are often used. Hybrid connection is suitable for parts that require redundant connections, such as the connection of medium-thickness plates.
